7:45 AM – Sunday, January 2nd, 2011. Dorothy has just left for church. The house is still. Through the den window, seated in my desk chair, the scene is reflective of my mood. Like 10-year-old Pip in Great Expectations, I’m looking at a fog rising from the melting snow obscuring much of the grove of trees in the cul-de-sac at the foot of Curiosity Lane. I’m trying to claw through my fog and plot a course for the year ahead.
My blog has provided me great satisfaction, but the challenge of duplicating the effort and improving the content while expanding my audience is a big task.
Not much of a “techie” by nature, my learning curve has been steeper than most. Thank the good Lord for daughter Jenny!
The satisfaction of keeping in touch with college, high school, and prep school classmates and teammates, shipmates, lifeguard alumni, neighbors and friends from Brightwaters and getting acquainted with new friends here in Essex, Connecticut has been reward enough to keep me typing. Add to that, the number of stories preserved for family and friends and, all in all, the blog experiment has been a highlight in 2010.
This year, I’m going to add “One 78-Year-Old’s Opinions!” on important issues of the day. Please comment up or down if the spirit so moves you.
THANKS FOR READING MY BLOG,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
GEORGE
And a Happy New Year to you two! I’ll be waiting to read what you think of the world in this next year. I’m beginning to think I’ve become my crotchety old-bat Mother. I find I have less & less patience than I did before. I’ll keep in touch and I’ll argue with you if I feel so inclined!
Joan
Happy New Year, George. I’ve enjoyed all your blogging, especially the USN parts, which we shared around the same time, though I was in Westpac. All the Best, Fred…
Happy 2011, Uncle George. We Andersons have certainly enjoyed this blog and look forward to a new year of stories. Melissa.
